We encourage intellectual honesty, innovation, diversity, and mutual respect, and our analysis elevates the debate, wherever it takes place.

The Urban Institute has built a cutting-edge in-house communications team that translates research for broad audiences through creative content and innovative engagement. To support these efforts, Urban’s digital communications team is hiring a digital production coordinator.

How you’ll contribute:
A digital generalist, the digital production coordinator will support Urban’s digital communications work across multiple websites and projects—from web production and support to posting research publications for policy centers. This early-career position reports to the senior web production manager.

Responsibilities:
  • Produce web features and projects on Urban-affiliated websites using the Drupal content management system
  • Update content on Urban-affiliated websites to reflect current events and priorities
  • Coordinate the posting of research reports, briefs, and other publications daily
  • Provide website support to staff using the help desk ticket system
  • Train staff in content management to update center and project pages on website and assist in troubleshooting any issues
  • Work with Research Center staff and leadership on section update schedules across the organization.
  • Consult with researchers and other content creators on digital content best practices and strategy.

What you’ll bring:
The successful candidate will:
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in communications, English, marketing, or a related field; or equivalent work/education experience
  • Have 1-2 years of professional experience (internships apply)
  • Experience with Drupal and Wordpress content management systems
  • Intermediate, working knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Understanding of javascript is a plus
  • Possess a general understanding of best practices for websites and web accessibility
  • Demonstrate ability to juggle multiple tasks across projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Be eager to learn and grow in the digital communications space
Please include a cover letter with your application.

What you’ll experience:
You can expect to have an impact on policy areas you care about and work with great colleagues who are smart, mission-driven, and collaborative. You will blend academic rigor with on-the-ground collaboration, be encouraged and supported to fulfill your potential through meaningful work, and enjoy a welcoming workplace free from harassment, discrimination, and intolerance.
In addition, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, disability, and life insurance coverage; competitive paid time off allowance; and eligibility to participate in a generous retirement savings plan and reimbursable commuting expense program. This position is open to remote employment opportunities.
