Ian Bevel
I am an aspiring software developer who recently completed the Epicodus code school and am in the process of seeking my first full time web/software developer position. I have interned at two companies in the Portland area, SBI Team and JustFor/Copious. Before delving into the technology industry, I worked for the American Red Cross at one of their National Testing Laboratories. At the Red Cross, I honed my critical thinking and problem solving skills while developing a passion for process improvement. I am excited at the prospect of a career in which I am able to solve complex problems as a primary responsibility. The convergence of the coding, improved teamwork and communication skills gained at Epicodus, and the problem solving, process improvement and critical thinking skills developed while at the Red Cross combine to make me an ideal candidate for a career in software development.
I attended the Epicodus Code School in 2015, a web development bootcamp. After that, I was an intern at two Portland, OR companies where I further honed my skills and got exposure to larger projects.
I love how with enough thought, time and grit you can do anything. One of the many "Ah Ha!" moments that I had was early on in my schooling when I was having difficulty getting a built in search method to work properly. It occurred to me that with a little effort, I could build my own from the ground up. It took me a few hours, but at the end I had solved a real problem. That ended up being one of the projects that I was the most proud of because I made it my own and problem solved on the fly.
