I've always had a hobbyist interest in programming. I started out in Computer Science at Michigan Technological University in 2005, but transitioned into IT Operations to complete my degree. Along the way, I've picked up broad knowledge of many different languages and algorithms. Fast forward to 2016, I was accepted into the Ikigai class of Remote Year where I spent a whole year traveling the world with my fellow remotes, many of whom are successful web developers. I saw them reaping great satisfaction out of their careers while I was becoming disillusioned with my operations career.
Since there seems to be no better time to jump into the world of web development, I completed the Udacity Front End Web Development nanodegree, and continue to complete programs through Codecademy, Udemy, FreeCodeCamp, and others to further hone my web development craft.
I love the fact that development can be done from anywhere with an internet connection. Our modern society has allowed the freedom to choose where you work while maintaining connections to your peers through video conferencing, Slack, IM, etc.
Coupled with the fact that development allows for creativity in problem solving and you have a recipe for a great life for creatives looking to expand their horizons both digitally and in the real world.
