Mae Capozzi

My name is Mae Capozzi and I am a recent graduate of Skidmore College, an elite liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs, NY. I am currently attending Dev Bootcamp in NYC, where I am learning both front-end and back-end skills. Most importantly, I am learning how to handle massive amounts of information in a short period of time, and how to use all of the resources available to me when I get stuck.

I began learning to program after working on a Digital Humanities project my junior year of college. My English professor happened to also know quite a bit of Python (he now works at a start-up in Philadelphia), and I found myself fascinated by the way he was able to build exactly what we needed for the project. After that, I took an online course in Python with Coursera, and applied to Dev Bootcamp in New York City. I am at Dev Bootcamp now, and will be finished with the program in December.

I love the way it feels when I finally solve a problem I struggled with. Sometimes when faced with a problem, I solve it easily and immediately. While that is thrilling in its own way, I stick with programming for the moment when I find a solution after hours of struggling. I love the challenge and pushing my brain to its limits. The closest experience I have had to programming is when I was learning to play a bass line in my left hand while improvising with my right on the piano. At first, I struggled tremendously to even grasp the concept of improvising separate lines in both hands, but once I began to do it, I kept pushing myself to get better and better. Now I can do it nearly subconsciously, and at a much higher level than I could have ever imagined. That's what I want to do with programming.
