Junior Software Developer with Strong IT Engineering Background
Hi, my name is Sam! I'm a Junior Software Developer with a strong IT engineering background. I currently work as a VOIP Engineer for a B2B tech company but would like to transition into a Junior Dev Role! I have a solid foundation in tech which makes me a strong asset for any software development organization. I am most familiar with C# , SQL , JavaScript, and Python but I feel confident that I can thrive in any dev environment because I am able to quickly learn and apply new tech! I have a strong Redhat Linux (RHEL), data networking (TCP/IP), project management, and troubleshooting base from my IT services background. I am skilled at developing relationships with diverse sets of people and I'm able to communicate with engineering and non-engineering minds to deliver good business results. I think this will help me exceed expectations in my first, full-time Junior Software Developer role. I am so excited to get started and hope to speak with you soon. After 3PM (PST) works best since I'm usually off the job then. Let's talk!

It happened naturally for me in 2017. I watched a couple Uncle Bob Clean Code videos and thought he was super cool (doesn't everyone?). This started my interest for software dev. I decided to take the education route to get started. My first coding was with Java in an Intro to Java Programming Course in 2017. I had so much fun in that beginner course that I decided to jump into a MS Software Design Management program. I performed well in a multitude of agile-focused software courses where I gained hands-on lab experience with software security, ETL, database design (entity-relationships etc.), software modeling (flow diagrams, user cases, sequence diagrams etc.), software architecture, and many other SDLC-focused courses. I learned to execute linux-based SQL injection attacks (in a lab environment) where I was able to gain unauthorized access to the DB and do what I wanted with that data. Super fun! Anyways, as I was approaching the last portion of the program in 2019, I completed a software contract for a company called PRAM Insurance. The contract was not a part of the grad program. I did that on the side because it was a great opportunity to get some real-world experience. Anyways, I graduated later that year in December 2019. In 2020 I was asked to lead an app development prototype for Synectic in 2020. This was a volunteer project and I worked on it outside of business hours. The requirements were to build an emergency alert app that would provide notifications when someone calls 911. I read the SDK/API which was written in C# and researched to find a good way to meet the requirements. Then, I chose a tech stack that best matched the goal for a lightweight, windows-based, alert app that could provide screen pops to a win32 environment (.Net , C# ,Sqlite , Dapper ORM). Most recently, I've decided to pursue a deeper understanding of JavaScript and CI/CD using non-Microsoft tech. My current personal project is to build a simple JavaScript website (SPA) that has a fully-functioning pipeline so that each GIT commit is automatically built, tested, and deployed to AWS (Git, GitHub, Jenkins, Node, Javascript, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS EC2).
I like programming because it involves creating new things. The environment and business needs are morphing and there is a continual need to create something from nothing. I am a problem solver and enjoy bringing solutions to the table. Programming is a creative skill with an iterative process for making gains. You make things. You test those things. You put them into production and get to see the fruit of your hard labor. I think it's a rewarding career and I'm excited to jump in and prove my value as a Junior Developer and beyond.
